Seasoning salt is an easy-to-make homemade seasoning recipe that adds so much taste and flavor to even the simplest dishes.
We love adding seasoning salt to grilled veggies, home-cooked dinners, and more. Let’s make this 1-minute seasoned salt and see how easy it can be!
What is Seasoned Salt?
Seasoned salt is a spice blend that truly just adds a small but significant amount of spices to salt.
Seasoning salt usually includes a large base of salt, then additions of black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and added spices for optional flavor.
What is in Seasoned Salt?
If you ever wondered what ingredients and spices are in seasoned salt, here’s the answer:
- Salt & Black Pepper: use finely ground salt and black pepper for even distribution throughout
- Paprika: paprika adds a subtle spice and a bold color to your seasoning salt.
- Garlic Powder & Onion Powder: I love adding these two ingredients together in most homemade seasonings, but if you don’t like onion powder, you can skip it.
- Cayenne Pepper: skip this ingredient if you’re sensitive to heat, or adjust for higher heat if you’d like
- Turmeric: we won’t be using this spice today for the ease of the recipe, but you can add it in for color—as does Lawry’s seasoning salt.
How to Make Seasoned Salt
Add all ingredients into a bowl and stir until very well mixed. It’s truly that easy to make seasoned salt!
Does seasoned salt expire?
Yes, seasoned salt can expire. Although the salt can preserve it for a longer period, the freshness and taste of most spices will dull over time.
To be safe, keep seasoned salt no longer than 1 year. For store-bought, follow the expiration date on the bottle.
How to Use Seasoning Salt

- Sprinkle on… eggs, burgers, amazing Pizza Sliders, and cheese quesadillas or mushroom quesadillas served with Black Bean and Corn Salsa or Pineapple Salsa.
- Protein: use it as a BBQ rub on tofu, seafood, meats, and more.
- Snacks: sprinkle seasoning salt on Roasted Garlic Bread, popcorn, baked tortilla chips, and our favorite Air Fryer French Fries. And don’t forget to try dipping these yummy snacks in some onion ring sauce for an extra flavor kick.
