Crispy golden Air Fryer Tater Tots cooked easily in 10 minutes. Less oil in the air fryer and easy to customize! The best Frozen Tater Tots in Air Fryer.
Air Fryer Tater Tots
When that craving for tater tots hits, nearly nothing can stop it. Except … the guilt, the grease, and the ganache?! (I ran out of g words heehee.) Welp, today’s Air Fryer Tater Tots recipe solves at least two of those words. We’ll be making frozen tater tots in the air fryer with less oil and less calories than regular tater tots.
This appetizer recipe takes just a minute to prep, and I’ve included my best suggestions for seasonings to jazz up your air fryer tater tots as some mouthwatering sauces as well!
How to Cook Tater Tots in Air Fryer
First, let’s preheat an air fryer to 400°F. My air fryer doesn’t require a preheat, so skip this step if yours doesn’t either.
Use cooking spray to coat your air fryer basket to avoid sticking. Now, toss about half a bag of tots into the air fryer. Spray to coat, shake the basket, coat again.
So, how long to cook tater tots in an air fryer, anyway?
Cook tater tots in the air fryer for 10-16 minutes, shaking halfway through. For crisper tots, cook longer and/or in single layer batches. (You can do both for extra crisp tots.)
After cooking, you can spray once more in cooking spray, then sprinkle and toss to coat in seasonings. Check out my seasonings ideas below!

Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1 lb. frozen tater tots
- Cooking spray
Seasonings:
- For spice: Cajun seasoning or seasoned salt
- Garlic lovers: garlic salt
- Taco twist: taco seasoning
- Herby: Italian seasoning
- Simple: salt and pepper
Instructions
- If needed, preheat air fryer to 400°F. My air fryer doesn’t need preheating, so I skip this step.
- Spray to coat air fryer basket. Pour ½ lb of tater tots into the air fryer basket.* Coat tots with cooking spray, shake basket, and coat again.
- Optionally, sprinkle with seasonings—you can also do this after cooking, which I prefer to avoid burnt spice bits throughout.
- Cook for 10-16 minutes, shaking halfway through. Cook on the longer end for extra crispy tots. Check and add on a few more minutes depending on the crispiness level desired.
- Spray with cooking spray, then sprinkle and toss in a bowl with seasonings. Serve with ketchup, onion ring sauce, garlic parmesan sauce, chipotle aioli, or garlic aioli.
You’re a lifesaver! Tots came out perfectly crispy and not burnt like last time I tried lol. The sauce suggestions were on point! Esp that onion ring sauce 👍
Woohoo! So glad you liked the sauces. And yay for no more burnt tots! (I’ve definitely been there before haha)
