Customizations
Feel free to customize this bang bang shrimp bowl recipe by swapping nearly anything in it with your favorite toppings, protein, and even switching up the temperature of the ingredients.
- Swap for a different shrimp like garlic butter shrimp, coconut shrimp, crispy shrimp, or Asian garlic shrimp.
- Skip the white rice, and sub with quinoa, brown rice, zucchini noodles and more.
- Swap the protein out completely: instead, use Asian salmon, pan seared chicken, or spicy honey teriyaki salmon.
- Make the bowl warmer: by subbing the raw veggies with hot veggies like blistered green beans or air fryer brussels sprouts.
Tips
Here are some of my favorite ways to make this shrimp bowl even tastier, from adjusting the spice and sauce level to frying the shrimp extra golden.
- Adjust the sauce to your spice level: I use 1 tablespoon sriracha for the base recipe; you can use more for spicier shrimp or less if you’re sensitive to heat.
- Make more bang bang sauce if you like it saucier: If I’m feeling indulgent, I’ll make twice the amount for super saucy bang bang shrimp.
- Top your bowl with extra sauces: I like layering on eel sauce, dipping my shrimp in dumpling sauce, or making it extra creamy with yum yum sauce or spicy mayo.
- Fry the shrimp to your liking: longer for golden, extra crunchy shrimp and shorter for more tender, lighter shrimp.
