Halloween Witch Hat Cookies
The day has finally come for one of the cutest (I mean spookiest) easy Halloween treat recipes ever: Halloween witch hat cookies! They’re so much fun to make with the kiddos and adults alike, from stirring up the perfect shade of witchy purple to pipe onto the hats to unwrapping Kisses (and trying not to eat them all first), this spooky treat is the best.
My family had such a blast making these no bake Halloween cookies, all playfully arguing about whose witch hats were the best (some people just had to add 4 buckles to each hat).
The best part? They’re incredibly tasty! Decadent fudge-striped cookies are topped with frosting and chocolate Kisses, with a bit of sanding sugar for a pretty sparkle. Let’s no bake this!
Recipe for Witch Hat Cookies Ingredients
- Purple, Orange, and Green sanding sugar: to match the frosting bands
- Fudge-Striped Cookies: you can also use fudge-covered Oreos, but these look most like witch hats
- Frosting: you can buy separate purple, orange, and green frosting, or use vanilla frosting and mix it with gel colors
- Hershey’s Kisses: adorable as the top of the hat, you’ve gotta make witch hat cookies with Hersheys Kisses to really impress
- Mini M&M’s: these create the “buckles” on the hats
How to Make Witch Hat Cookies
This witches hat cookie recipe is so easy to make, with just 2 simple steps! We love making these for Halloween parties and giving them away in our Halloween treat baskets.
- Place fudge-striped cookies upside down on a cookie sheet. Prepare orange, purple, and green frosting (see my section on How to Make Halloween Frosting below).
- Pipe frosting around the bottom of an unwrapped Hershey’s Kiss, then stick it to the center of a cookie. Repeat for all cookies.
- Pipe frosting around the Kiss to make a band. Sprinkle sugar onto bands. Press mini M&M into band. Enjoy the cutest witch cookie hats!
How to Make Halloween Frosting (Purple, Orange, Green)
You can use store-bought vanilla frosting or homemade vanilla frosting. Place about ¼ cup frosting into 3 small bowls each. Add drops of gel color into each bowl, stirring very well and adding more drops until desired color is reached. I made one bowl each of purple frosting, orange frosting, and green frosting.
Make It Your Own!
- Use several different colors of frosting to create the witch hat bands – it’s cute and extra festive! (See note above.)
- Swap the cookies: I used fudge striped cookies, but you can use Oreos, fudge cookies, crispy gingersnap cookies, and more. Just try to use one that matches or complements the color of the kisses.
- Swap the chocolate: Instead of plain milk chocolate Hershey kisses, you can make homemade vegan Kisses, use Hugs (the white and black stripes are so cute), and more.
- Use sprinkles instead of sanding sugar. I prefer sanding sugar because it adheres to the frosting really easily, but you can use colorful & cute Halloween sprinkles if you prefer.
Tools You Need
- Gel color – mix this food safe gel color with vanilla frosting to create orange, purple, and green piping for the cookies!
- Hershey’s Kisses
- Sanding sugar – get sanding sugar to match the color of the frosting for a pretty sparkle.

Ingredients
- 30 fudge striped cookies
- Purple, orange, and green frosting, or use vanilla frosting mixed with gel color
- 30 Hershey’s Kisses, unwrapped
- Mini M&M’s, for the buckles
- Purple, orange, green sanding sugar
Instructions
- Place cookies upside down on a large baking sheet. Pipe frosting onto the bottom of a Kiss and adhere onto the center of a cookie. Repeat for all cookies.
- Pipe frosting around the Kiss to create a semi-thick band. Sprinkle sugar over bands. Press a mini M&M into the band for the buckle. Enjoy!
