“This is Halloween, this is Halloween, Halloween, Halloween…!” Every All Hallow’s Eve, Erik and I are chanting and singing this song like deranged zombies (are there non-deranged zombies??), all in anticipation of one of our fave holidays.
The sights, the sounds, the treats! What’s not to love about Halloween? We’ve been known to make a few spider pizzas, some mummy dogs, and of course, today’s Halloween Crack recipe.
It’s bone-chillingly delicious, with salty crackers coated in buttery sweet toffee, topped with a thick layer of chocolate and crunchy/chewy Halloween toppings like candy corn and googly eyes! You’ll love bringing this to parties, giving them out as treats, and more!

Halloween Crack Candy Recipe Ingredients
- Butter & Brown Sugar for the toffee
- Crackers: saltine crackers add a yummy saltines to this crack
- Chocolate Chips: you can use milk, dark, or white chocolate
- Googly Eyes: one of my favorite Halloween toppings! So cute and spooky.
- Candy Corn: a quintessential Halloween treat
- Halloween M&M’s: use orange, purple,, and green M&M’s
- Halloween Sprinkles: so much fun, with little balls, jimmies, and more

How to Make Halloween Crack
- Preheat oven to 400°F, line a 10×15″ baking pan with parchment paper, then cooking spray. Fully line the tray with a layer of saltine crackers.

- Whisk together butter and brown sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat, only until butter is melted. Let sit until it comes to a boil and reaches 270°F to 290°F on a candy thermometer.
- Going as fast (and carefully) as you can, pour the toffee over the crackers and spread in an even layer with a large offset spatula. Bake in the oven for 3-5 minutes, until bubbling.

- Sprinkle chocolate chips over toffee and allow to melt. Using a small offset spatula, spread chocolate then top with Halloween toppings. Press into chocolate. Chill in the fridge for 1 hour.
- Pop the corners of the Halloween Crack out of the sheet, then peel off the parchment. Slice and enjoy the best Halloween crack candy recipe!

Halloween Crack Candy Recipe
Ingredients
Halloween Crack
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 35-45 saltine crackers, depending on size of pan and brand of crackers
- 12 oz bag semi-sweet chocolate chips, or 2 cups
Halloween Candy Toppings
- 2 teaspoons googly eyes, variety of sizes
- ¼ cup candy corn
- 3 tablespoons Halloween M&M’s
- 1 tablespoon Halloween sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a 10×15” baking sheet with parchment paper and mist with cooking spray. Fully line the sheet with 1 layer of crackers. Set aside.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, whisk together butter and brown sugar only until butter is melted. Let it sit (not whisking at all) while it comes to a boil. It’s done once it reaches 270°F to 290°F on a candy thermometer (required).*
- Working quickly, pour toffee over the crackers and spread into an even layer with a large offset spatula. (It will set in seconds). Bake for 3-5 minutes, or until bubbling.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the toffee and let sit until melted. Using a small offset spatula, smooth into an even layer. Sprinkle and press Halloween Toppings into the chocolate. Chill in the refrigerator until hardened, about 1 hour. Or freeze for at least 30 minutes.
- Use a spoon to pop the corners of the Halloween crack out and loosen it from the sheet. Peel off the parchment paper. Slice the Halloween crack into pieces. Enjoy!
