What is Sriracha Mayo?

Sriracha mayo is a spicy and creamy condiment made with sriracha, a chili pepper-based hot sauce originating from Thailand and popular in Vietnamese cuisine. Sriracha and mayonnaise are combined to make a hot condiment that’s balanced with creamy mayo, like in yum yum sauce.

Is Sriracha Mayo the same as spicy mayo?

Yes and no. Sriracha Mayo is one kind of spicy mayo. Spicy mayo can be made with any number of spicy ingredients, including any type of hot sauce, chipotle powder, sambal oelek chili paste, and more. Sriracha mayo is made with sriracha only.

What is in Sriracha Mayo?

This sriracha mayo recipe is made with 3 ingredients: mayonnaise, sriracha, and lemon juice. For a bolder flavor, you can optionally add salt and pepper.

  • Mayonnaise – use your favorite brand, be it Hellman’s, a store brand or Kewpie mayo to make Kewpie sriracha mayo.
  • Sriracha – I always, always use Huy Fong sriracha. I’ve been eating this since I was a kid and don’t really like the other brands.
  • Lemon Juice – use fresh-squeezed for a brighter flavor.
  • Salt and Pepper (Optional) – add as much or as little as you’d like, to taste.

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a bowl. Whisk until very well mixed and smooth.
  • If needed, add sriracha, salt and pepper to taste.
  • Use immediately, or store in an airtight container like this squeeze bottle in the refrigerator. Serve with salmon rice bowls, coconut shrimp, crispy Panko shrimp tacos.

Notes

  • *¼ cup sriracha barely has any spice to it, in my opinion—so this is the safe one for those averse to spice. For me (a spicy lover), closer to ½ cup is tastier. Taste it as you whisk the ingredients together, adding as little or as much spice as you’d like.
  • Storing instructions: Store homemade sriracha mayo in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 4-6 days.
