Candy Cane Hearts with Chocolate

Candy cane hearts with chocolate centers are an easy, festive recipe made with mini candy canes and melted chocolate. With just 3 ingredients, this candy cane heart recipe is delicious and pretty, just like Christmas Crack.

Candy cane hearts combine three of my favorite things of all time: sweets, the holidays, and love!!! (Okay, there are like a billion more wonderful things on that favorites list, but I’m doing a bit here!!) 😉

What are Candy Cane Hearts?

These candy cane hearts with chocolate centers are a great way to kick off the Christmastime/holiday season! They’re a super fun ‘n easy treat that uses just 3 ingredients including two mini candy canes filled with chocolate and topped with crushed candy, sprinkles, or whatever your heart desires.

And they go oh so well with my Double Chocolate Peppermint Bark and Peppermint Milkshake. You ready? Let’s jingle all the way into each others’ candy cane hearts. 🙂

2 or 3 Ingredient Candy Cane Hearts

These homemade Christmas treats can be made with 2 or 3 ingredients–that’s up to you to decide. Either way, you can customize them as you’d like!

  • Mini Candy Canes – you can use traditional ones that are red and white with a peppermint flavor, or you can go with blue and green, sour, chocolate-flavored and more!
  • Chocolate – try dark chocolate or white chocolate
  • Toppings – you can use crushed candy canes, chocolate chips, or festive Christmas sprinkles

How to Make a Candy Cane Heart

This homemade holiday treat is unbelievably easy to make, with just a few ingredients and less than 10 minutes of time, similar to these Haystack Cookies with Chow Mein Noodles.

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper.
  2. Unwrap two candy canes and lay them on the prepared sheet, flat and facing each other to create a heart shape. Repeat for all.
  3. Melt chocolate. Pipe chocolate into the center of each candy cane heart until filled. If needed, press candy canes back together.
  4. Chill until firm. Then, enjoy the season with a sweet and minty delight!

Storing Instructions: Store these Christmas treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-3 weeks, maximum. These treats keep for quite awhile, similar to my homemade crunch bars.

Freezing Instructions: Store chocolate heart candy canes in an airtight, freezer-friendly container in the freezer for 1-2 months.

Description

Candy cane hearts with chocolate centers are an easy, festive recipe made with mini candy canes and melted chocolate. With just 3 ingredients, this candy cane heart recipe is delicious and pretty!

Ingredients

Units Scale

Candy Cane Hearts

  • 28 mini candy canes
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Topping

  • 12 tablespoons your favorite toppings (crushed candy canes, festive sprinkles, mini white chocolate chips, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Line a medium baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper. Clear some room in the refrigerator for this sheet. Set aside.
  2. Lay two unwrapped mini candy canes on the prepared sheet, flat and facing each other—the two candy canes should make a heart shape. Make sure candy canes are touching and as close as can be while laying flat.
  3. Add chocolate to a medium, microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 10-second increments until just softened—the chocolate will continue to melt a bit after heating, be careful not to overheat. Stir in between heating increments, until smooth.
  4. Spoon melted chocolate carefully into a piping bag or zip bag with a tiny tip trimmed off. Pipe melted chocolate into the center of each candy cane heart. If needed, press candy canes together.
  5. Chill in the refrigerator for 20-30 mins, until firm. Enjoy! Storing instructions below.

  1. I’m kind of a rebel, Demeter. I permanently deleted my Facebook account years ago. I don’t really have any social media stuff. I just blog.

  2. This looks super easy and super festive! I’m going to go look for those short candy canes tomorrow so I can try this soon! I think they’d make a really cute Christmas swag! Thanks for the idea, Demeter!
