Roast the Garlic

Slice the Bread
Then, select a bread of your choice. I love ciabatta when I’m craving a chewier garlic bread, and French or Italian for a crowd favorite.
Using a sharp knife, or a bread knife if you’re fancy, slice the loaf in half down the center.
Retrieve the Roasted Garlic
An oddly satisfying task? Gently and skillfully removing the roasted garlic cloves from the papery head.
Make the Garlic Butter
Now, add garlic, butter, and salt to a small bowl.
Preferably using a pastry cutter, mash the garlic and butter together until the garlic is mostly smashed but not altogether smooth—this makes for delicious chunks of garlic throughout the bread.

PrintRoasted Garlic Bread {Homemade Recipe}
- Total Time: 17 minutes
- Yield: about 14 slices 1x
Description
Deep, roasted garlic flavor mixed with buttery rich spread on perfectly toasted bread for the BEST Roasted Garlic Bread!
Ingredients
Garlic Bread Ingredients
- 3 heads roasted garlic
- 1 loaf bread (French, ciabatta, Italian)
- 3–4 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
- Salt to taste, or sprinkle my favorite garlic salt for an extra delicious garlicky treat
Garnish
- Chopped fresh parsley
- Garlic salt
Instructions
- First, follow this roasted garlic recipe. Set roasted garlic aside.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- While garlic is cooling, slice a loaf of bread down the center to create two flatter sides, like you’re preparing a sub. Place bread halves side by side on a large, rimmed baking sheet. Set aside.
- Once roasted garlic heads are safe to touch, trim the edges of the papery skin to make it easier to retrieve the garlic. Retrieve the roasted garlic cloves from the head and add to a medium bowl.
- Mash garlic, butter, and salt in the bowl. Stir and mash until well mixed.
- Spread the garlic butter over the bread halves, creating an even layer.
- Bake for 8-15 minutes, depending on toast level preference (shorter for softer bread, longer for crispier bread). I like to bake mine until deep golden at the edges with a crispy crust, about 12 minutes.
- Carefully slice once cool enough to handle. Top with parsley and serve. Optionally, sprinkle with grated parmesan or garlic salt for a special treat.
Notes
Storing Instructions: Baked garlic bread can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Be sure to cool completely before storing.
Freezing Instructions: Cool completely, then store in a freezer-friendly container in the freezer for 1-3 months. Thaw and reheat before serving.
