Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Popsicles (Vegan, Gluten Free, Dairy Free)
Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Popsicles (V+GF): a 6 ingredient plant-based recipe for rich, creamy chocolate-drizzled peanut butter banana popsicles. Vegan, Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free.
“You are my friends.”
Four of the sweetest words I’ve heard in my life. Lately, my nearly three year-old nephew has been calling Erik and I his friends. If you can’t tell, I’m grinning like a HUGE dork right now. A very happy dork, at that.
It’s just, when the little ones come into your life, you start looking at things so differently. And it’s not just because of all the super adorable miniaturized items that they need. I mean, don’t even get me started on the tiny toothbrushes, the mini shoes, the even mini-er socks, or the monster-shaped EVERYTHING.
When you see the world through a child’s eyes, everything is so wonderful and new. I had kinda forgotten how amazing the world was until I saw it through Dylan’s eyes. The trees are bigger, the wind is softer, the little things are shinier. Dylan, or “PB” as his mama calls him, has been more than just a bundle of joy. He’s been a reminder to enjoy life again.
Our family went through a bit of a rough patch a few years back. Every day became a
meditation in gloominess. We were all stuck in a rut, when he finally came along. But each day, he’s reminded us of the good things in the world, and how it’s filled with so much happiness.
This month, PB turns three. And we’re gonna be celebrating his birthday along with his mama’s. Yep, they were born in the same month. I can’t disclose whether or not this was planned. Ahem. 😉
Happy birthday to the most adorable, wonderful and loving mini human being. In honor of his awesomeness, I whipped up chocolate-drizzled Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Popsicles. For PB, a peanut butter popsicle. 😉 This recipe is based off of my popular chocolate peanut butter banana popsicle and smoothie recipes. And just in case you were craving ice cream instead of popsicles, you’ve got to check out Go Dairy Free’s Fudgesicle Power Ice Cream! Looks sooo good, right?
Anyway, back to what I was saying… . So naturally you’re thinking, “PB” must stand for peanut butter, right? It only makes sense. Well, my friend, our family is not known for always adhering to Making Sense guidelines. In fact, we shirk them! PB actually stands for Pooh Bear. Because… uh… well, my sister’s (his mom’s) favorite animal are monkeys. Um…. See what I mean?
Moving on! The other day, my sister texts all of us at 4 in the morning. Mom hours, right? We have a daily group sister chat that can sometimes exceed 150 texts in one day. Fun times. Anyway, she’s happy as a clam (at 4am, what the??). She tells us that lately, she’s been singing Hush, Little Baby to PB.
So at first, everything started out as you’d expect. Jenny sang, “Hush, little baby, don’t say a word. Mama’s gonna buy you a mocking bird.” No comments from PB, just apt listening. Okay, maybe there were also requests for popsicles and three different Rescue Bots.
But at 3am that morning, he starts fussing. He’s squirming about, asking her to sing to him. She starts singing, “Hush little baby, don’t say a word. Mama’s gonna buy you a rocking horse.”
PB: “No, helicopter Transformer.”
Jenny: “Hush little baby, don’t say a word, Mama’s gonna buy you a helicopter Transformer.”
PB: “Blades!!” (The helicopter Transformer’s name. Obviously.) 😉
Jenny: “Hush little baby, don’t say a word, Mama’s gonna buy you a helicopter Transformer Blades.”
PB: “Blades. Rescue Bot!”
Jenny: “Hush little baby, don’t say a word, Mama’s gonna buy you a helicopter Transformer Blades Rescue Bot.”
PB: “Blades, Rescue Bot, Bumble Bee, Buildozer!!!” (No actual character named Buildozer in Rescue Bots. PB just got confused because Boulder turns into a bulldozer. Look at that, he’s following the Making Sense guidelines… don’t know where he got that from!)
Jenny, now gasping for air to sing the entire line in one breath, sings “Hush little baby, don’t say a word, Mama’s gonna buy you a helicopter Transformer Blades Rescue Bot Bumble Bee Buildozer!”
And so on it went, getting more and more elaborate, and AWESOME. That’s love for you: singing Transformers-edited lullabies at 3am in the morning, feeling your heart flutter, and knowing that this is what life is about. <3
For the rest of the day, all of us had silly grins on our faces, thinking about that miniature clever sir of ours. Happy birthday to PB, thank you for making all of us so happy.

PrintDouble Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Popsicles (Vegan, Gluten Free, Dairy Free)
- Yield: 10–12 popsicles 1x
Description
Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Popsicles (V+GF): a 6 ingredient, plant-based recipe for rich, creamy chocolate-drizzled peanut butter banana popsicles. Vegan, Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free.
Ingredients
Popsicles
- 4 medium bananas, sliced and frozen
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons natural, unsalted peanut butter
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 tablespoons melted coconut oil
- 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
Chocolate Drizzle
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
Instructions
- Make the popsicles: Add bananas and almond milk into blender. Blend until smooth, scraping down the sides of the blender as necessary. Add peanut butter. Blend until smooth.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together 3 tablespoons each of cocoa powder, coconut oil and maple syrup. Whisk until smooth and shiny, like melted chocolate.
- Pour this mixture into the blender. Blend until smooth, scraping down the sides of the blender as needed.
- Pour into popsicle mold, leaving about 1/4 inch of space for the mixture to expand in the freezer. Freeze for 6-8 hours.
- Remove from freezer. Line a large baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper. Clear space in the freezer for this sheet.
- If needed, allow popsicles to thaw for a few minutes. Optionally, run popsicle mold under a bit of lukewarm water, to loosen the bars. Place the popsicle mold on a flat surface and wiggle the popsicles out.
- Lay the popsicles evenly spaced apart on the prepared baking sheet. Freeze for 1 hour to firm up popsicles.
- Make the chocolate drizzle: When the popsicles are firm, it’s time to start making the drizzle. In a small bowl, whisk together the chocolate drizzle ingredients: 2 tablespoons each of cocoa powder, coconut oil and maple syrup. Whisk until thickened and smooth, like melted chocolate. Remove baking sheet from the freezer. Using a small spoon, drizzle chocolate mixture over popsicles. Place baking sheet back into the freezer for 5-10 minutes.
- Remove from freezer. Enjoy!
Notes
– Wrap individual popsicles in wax paper or parchment. Store in an airtight container in the freezer for 1-2 weeks.
– Adapted from my Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Popsicles and my Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie.

These look amazing! Denver has been hitting the 90s every day this week, so a cold snack like this just looks perfect. Love that they are dairy-free too! These are super allergy friendly – love that!
Thank you, Rachel. 🙂 90 degree heat definitely calls for popsicles! I hope you get a chance to try these. 🙂
Demeter = Popsicle Queen. You seriously make the best looking pops ever 😉 & your nephew sounds like such a fun little dude. Happy Birthday!
Lol. Thanks Megan! I’m so happy you’re enjoying all the popsicles. After all, I’ve got to get my money’s worth out of these pop molds! Lol. Thank you for the birthday wishes and for stopping by. 🙂
So sweet! Happy birthday to your nephew! Awesome birthday gift! These popsicles are perfect! Thanks for sharing your family story!!!
Thanks Mira! 🙂
Happy Birthday, PB and for inspiring these delicious popsicles! As a mom, I constantly had to remind myself to slow down because the kids were small and I was trying to rush them through our tall and large world. They are brutally honest and I love that about them! They teach me to be a better and more patient person for sure!
Aw, thank you for the birthday wishes! 🙂 Such a sage reminder. This world that we live in demands us to move so fast, juggle so much. Sometimes we all forget to just slow down a bit and enjoy life. Kid’s honesty: Right?? Lol. They just tell it like it is! Ha. Thank you for sharing your experiences with me, Jennifer. <3
What a wonderful birthday gift! I’m sure that these popsicles would make happy any 3 (and 13, 23, 33, 43, 53…..123) year old on their birthdays. I’ll definitely try these ones too, the banana, chocolate and peanut butter combo is amazing!!! Hopefully I don’t have to wait until my birthday! 😀
Anyways, hahaha, I guess funniness runs in your family. Plus the wild imagination, – definitely a strong one too. Pooh Bear has started it early 🙂
Have a wonderful week my friend, enjoy all the birthday celebration!
So many 3’s!! I’d especially like to think that the 123 year old would LOVE this. 😉 E, I gotta start making more chocolate and PB stuff, now that I know how much you love it. 😉 Don’t wait til your next birthday, that’s ages from now! Hehe. PB: Oh girl, he’s got lessons he could teach to us adults about imagination. We were totally way more fun as kids though, that’s for sure. Time to fix that, right? 😉 Thanks Evi! Have an awesome week too! xo
Awhhh! Happy Birthday to PB! It’s incredible how much children change the landscape of our lives for the better! And if his mama is anything like you – which it sounds like you guys are all peas from the same pod – then he is definitely a chip off the old block… Thank you for sharing your family stories! I always look forward to them! And these popsicles – lovelovelove!! xoxo
Thank you for the birthday wishes, Annie! 🙂 If PB could type, he would probably thank you and start asking about more Rescue Bots. Lol. These little ones put things into perspective, that’s for sure. <3 Thank you for your kind words, friend. Have a wonderful week! 🙂

Now into these pops…YUM! You totally had me at double chocolate and peanut butter. And I absolutely LOVE the addition of bananas in here, too! Such a fun summer treat, Demeter! Pinned, of course!
He’s seriously the sweetest (and sassiest, I might add!). Double chocolate and PB–it’s what we deserve to make up for this crazy heat! 😉 Thanks Gayle!

Awww, your 3 years old sounds so adorable. A very Happy birthday to little charmer! 🙂 We are also best friends for Adoria! 😉 Absolutely agree that li’l ones give us a new way of thinking. The World is so amazing through a child’s eye. And these rich, creamy chocolate-drizzled peanut butter banana popsicles? They are so so good. And I love they are made with only 6 ingredients. So good.
Thanks Anu! Dylan is actually my nephew. 🙂 Remember that sister I told you about–Jenny? She’s the momma is this smart little cookie. 🙂 So pleased that you enjoyed this recipe! Thanks friend!
Well Happy Birthday to PB! Little man sounds adorable and seriously hilarious!! Children do have a way with reminding us what life is all about! The way they look at the world is so refreshing. Speaking of refreshing – these popsicles! LOVE ’em!! You are the chocolate-peanut-butter-banana MASTA, Demeter! Seriously, your nickname should be CPBB… or does that make too much sense? hahaha. I kid. Kinda? Anyways, these are definitely perfect for celebrating your nephew and his big day! Pinned! Cheers, lovely!
Thanks my dear! 🙂 🙂 He is the smartest little sir there is! So sharp and honest. <3 Sometimes kids see things so clearly that it kind of rocks you in the best way possible, ya know? 🙂 CPBB? I'll take it! Haha. True... too much sense may not bode well 'round these parts... Lol. Thank you friend! Muah!
Pinned before I even saw the recipe obviously because the words “Double Chocolate” are really all I need to hear! Well that coupled with the knowledge that it’s a Demeter recipe and it’s on a stick and you only put the most delicious of things on sticks! Hmm that didn’t sound as weird in my head as it does all written out ha! But seriously pb + chocolate + banana…sign me up for life <3
I always love your stories, this one is so super sweet and hilarious all at once. I love PB's specificity, he certainly knows his Transformers! I'm not usually a fan of 4am texts, but with stories that cute to share who cares about sleep anyways 🙂
Kids are so much fun! I think life planned it perfectly so that we are meant to have kids right at the age when we've been adulting for a little too long–too serious, not enough play. Or just use your sister's kids, that is a great plan too. Actually better in a lot of ways, I keep telling my sister that she's older so she needs to go ahead and have kids so I can play aunt 🙂
Would ya excuse me while I snort and giggle like the mature person I am? 😉 Your comments are friggin hilarious, Nat! I’m gonna sign you up for life on the Choco/PB list, as well as the Awesomely Weird Shared Humor list. Is that cool? 😉
Specificity: Lolol. That’s exactly what it is! He’s sharp *and* precise. All kids are like that, right? 😉 “Too serious, not enough play”: Right? That’s such a wonderful way to look at it. For now, being an aunt is simply the best. Tell your sis I said that! 😉 Thanks Natalie. 🙂
Oooo how sweet!! He must be such a little gem <3
These are beautiful and perfect, my friend!! Anyone would be lucky to enjoy these on their birthday!
He’s definitely a gem–and a chatty, hilarious one at that! 😉 Thank you so much, my dear!
You get me every time with your chocolate and peanut butter recipes! Amazing. And happy birthday to Dylan, children are such a joy, a blessing and a real gift…..miraculous…each one. Cause for some of us, it ain’t that easy to even have kids and your rainy day fund goes to pricy doctors to give ya a hand. Trust me! Motivation even more to keep checking your blog for healthy recipes and healthy spins to avoid crappy, processed food. That’a another gift I want to give my kids!
Chocolate and PB: just meant to be, right? 😉 Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, Laura. Little ones are such a joy and definitely a blessing. I’m so happy to help with healthy recipes. The best gifts are the ones you can eat, right? 😉 Have a great week, my friend. xo
Happiest of birthdays to little PJ!!! It’s been my experience that those little humans aka children have this uncanny ability to teach us more than we teach them – and your sister’s “PJ” sounds a lot like my (now not so) Lil Shashi! 🙂
Beautiful post Demeter, one day when PJ can read, I hope he sees this and sees just how special his aunt and mom are! Speaking of special – girl, you are on a roll with the banana ice creams and popsicles – this is another stellar one – ooh I wish I could come over and stick my head in your freezer! Happy Monday to ya! xoxo
BTW – loved your post over at Bobbi’s!
Aw, thanks Shashi! It’s sooooo true that they teach us more than we teach them. It’s the most surprising and wonderful thing. 🙂 They just see the world in such a happy, pure and sometimes hilariously un-filtered way. 😉 Hey Lil Shashi! What’s up little human? Hehe. Come on over and stick your head wherever you’d like. <--okay, that sounded weird. Oh well! Thanks so much for your support, Shashi. You're an amazing friend. xoxo
Oh, this just warms my heart, Demeter! Your love for your nephew just shines through. Pooh Bear…how cute! My nephew and niece are just so sweet too. They may say the funniest things. And they are just so darn honest, lol!! So happy to hear that this little guy brings so much happiness to your family. And ‘you are my friends’ can just be the nicest thing anyone could say, right? Well, your my friend too, girlie 😉 Hope your nephew has a wonderful birthday month! Happy birthday to him!
Now, these pops? Love the combo here and that drizzle is brilliant! Just the perfect finishing touch and we could all use a little more chocolate, can’t we? I’ll take the full batch, ok? Pinning, of course 🙂
Have a great week! xo
Aw, Dawn… 🙂 You’re sweet and squishy on the inside like me, huh? <3 PB is just the most adorable, wonderful person in the entire world. 🙂 So funny on your nieces and nephews being super honest. No-filter kids, right? At least you know they're straight-talkin'. 😉 Aww... you are my friend too. <3 Sending over a big batch! Have a great week, friend! Muah.
