This garlic parmesan sauce is one of my favorite things ever. It’s the BEST: thick and creamy, with velvety-rich texture and robust garlic and cheesy parmesan flavor. It’s fairly simple to make, with common ingredients that come together for an epic and heavenly sauce you’ll want to pour over everything: chicken wings, pasta, pizza, veggies, and more.
You’ll seriously love how much better this homemade sauce is over store-bought.

Homemade Garlic Parmesan Sauce Ingredients
- Butter
- Garlic + Garlic Powder – two kinds of garlic create deep garlic flavor for the best garlic parmesan sauce recipe!
- Flour
- Italian Seasoning – my homemade italian seasoning is a must try!
- Heavy Cream
- Broth – chicken or vegetable will do
- Parmesan Cheese
- Salt & Pepper – I’ve listed my recommend amount, but you can adjust it to suit your tastes.
How to Make Garlic Parmesan Sauce
Learn how to make garlic parmesan sauce with these simple ingredients and just a few steps. You’ll be pouring this thick, creamy, and unbelievably delicious sauce on everything!
- Melt butter over medium high heat in a saucepan, then stir in garlic and cook until fragrant.
- Reduce the heat to medium and whisk in flour, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt and pepper until thickened.
- Increase the heat and slowly whisk in heavy cream and broth until the sauce is smooth. Bring to a low simmer and cook until thickened.
- Reducing the heat to low, stir in parmesan until it melts smoothly into the garlic parmesan sauce.
- Remove the sauce from the heat and add in any salt and pepper as needed. Enjoy this butter garlic parmesan sauce over wings, pasta, or on pizza!
What to Serve with Parmesan Garlic Sauce
- Pastas: cook your favorite pasta as directed, drain, and coat with this sauce! Or try my garlic butter pasta.
- Veggies: serve with cooked or raw veggies like broccoli, crispy brussels sprouts or garlic parmesan potatoes.

Garlic Parmesan Sauce
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
- ¾ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Heat a medium saucepan to medium high heat. Melt butter in the pan. Add garlic, stirring and cooking until fragrant.
- Reduce heat to medium and whisk in flour, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt and pepper until a thick texture like paste forms. You can start with less salt and adjust to taste while cooking the sauce.
- Increase heat to medium high, gradually whisking in heavy cream and broth until smooth. Bring to a low simmer, cooking until sauce thickens, about 2-4 minutes.
- Reduce heat to low, stirring in Parmesan. Stir until cheese melts and sauce becomes smooth.
- Remove from heat, add more salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve over cooked pasta, as a dip with appetizers like french fries, onion rings, or potato wedges, coat chicken wings, or on top of veggies like brussels sprouts.
