What is Honey Simple Syrup?

To understand what honey simple syrup is, we need to start with…

What is Simple Syrup?

Simple syrup is a liquid sweetener that is used in cocktail recipes and various drinks to enhance or add sweetness to the drink.

Simple syrup is made on the stovetop by gently heating sugar and water until the sugar dissolves and combines with the water.

Simple syrup is great because it allows for even sweetness throughout a drink whether it’s hot or cold. [1]

So, then what is honey simple syrup?

Honey simple syrup is a honeyed twist on simple syrup. Instead of heating sugar and water together, honey simple syrup calls for heating honey and water together.

Put simply, honey simple syrup is a liquid sweetener used in drink recipes that’s made by heating and combining honey and water into one cohesive liquid.

At times, you’ll come across a drink recipe, such as the Penicillin Cocktail, which requires ginger honey syrup.

For ginger honey syrup, simply add ½ cup sliced ginger to ¾  cup honey and ¾ cup water in a pan.

Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer.

Allow to simmer for about 30 minutes, then strain into a heatproof container. Cool completely and store.
