Perfect Baked Tortilla Chips
Crispy, crunchy, oh-so-good with all the dips, and made guilt-free. What’s not to love about baked tortilla chips?
If you’ve never made homemade baked tortilla chips, this is your sign to try it!
If you have, welcome to another tasty excuse to do so!
Today, I’m sharing an unbelievably easy and delicious oven baked recipe for tortilla chips—that you can make with corn tortillas, flour tortillas, or even whole wheat tortillas. Let’s go!
Baked Tortilla Chips Ingredients
Crispy edges, crunchy centers, and lightly buttery flavor with just the right amount of salt—these homemade tortilla chips are deliciously made with just 3 ingredients!
- Tortillas: For this recipe, I used flour tortillas, but I’ve used whole wheat in the past. You can also try corn tortillas for baked corn tortilla chips!
- Salt: I like freshly ground salt for the tasty, uneven bits (larger bits of salt are always a surprise yummy treat lol).
- Oil: my favorite oil to use in this recipe is extra virgin olive oil, but you can use avocado oil, canola oil, etc.
How to Bake Tortilla Chips
Learn how to make baked tortilla chips the easy way! Remember, my exact ingredients and instructions are in the recipe card further down this post.
Here is my step-by-step photo tutorial. Enjoy!
First, preheat the oven to 350°F. Then, line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly greased foil.
Second, grab your tortillas of choice and stack them neatly on a cutting board.
While keeping the stack intact, slice downward, making chip-shaped pieces.
I like to have a bit of fun here and make unique shapes, but you can do triangles for classic baked tortilla chips.
Next, begin spreading the tortilla pieces in a single layer across the baking sheet.
Be sure to leave just a bit of breathing room for each chip, as they’ll need air to crisp up.
Dip a silicone cooking brush into oil, then scrape off excess on the oil bowl.
Next, brush oil evenly across each chip, in a thin layer.
Sprinkle with salt.
Next, flip all of the chips and brush the uncoated side evenly. Add more salt if desired.
Then, bake for about 10 minutes, flip the chips over, and bake again for 4 more minutes.
Once fully baked, remove baking sheet from oven and add more salt if needed. Or, try a dash of seasoned salt for a fun flavor twist.
Then, allow to cool and enjoy the best baked tortilla chips!
What to Serve With Baked Tortilla Chips?
Savory Dips
We love serving these chips with a big bowl of my Easy Taco Dip Recipe. Or, you can try using your favorite salsa, vegan pesto (anyone else use this a dip for chips??), guacamole, garlic confit, onion ring sauce, or my Pineapple Salsa and tasty Black Bean and Corn Salsa!
For fun, I like to make a batch of Asian Salad Dressing and dip the chips in it! (Must try…) Bonus Tip: all these dips pair perfectly with some air fryer fries or a batch of air fryer onion rings.
Main Course
- Crispy Mushroom Quesadilla or perfect Cheese Quesadillas
- Asian Salad – sub the fried wonton strips with semi-crushed baked tortilla chips!
- Chickpea Salad

Something Sweet
I love dipping these in this rich ‘n creamy peanut butter dip.
Fancy a Drink, Anyone?
Storing
These baked tortilla chips are super easy to store! Simply cool tortilla chips completely, then store in an airtight container.
Remember to keep the container away from heat sources or direct sunlight, which could spoil the chips.

Perfect baked tortilla chips: crispy, crunchy, and guilt-free! Made with 3 ingredients, and perfect for Mexican-inspired dishes, dips, and more!
Ingredients
Tools Needed
- Sharp Chef’s Knife
- Silicone basting brush
- Baking sheet
- Cutting board
Ingredients
- 2 large flour tortillas
- 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt to taste
- Optionally, sprinkle with garlic salt or cajun seasoning a tasty treat!

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, foil, or a silicone baking mat. Lightly grease the baking sheet and set aside.
- Stack tortillas on top of each other for quick slicing. Once aligned, use a sharp knife to slice the tortillas into triangles. Each tortilla will become about 6-8 chips.
- Spread the tortilla pieces into an even layer on the prepared baking sheet, with a bit of space in between to let air through during baking.
- Using a basting brush, brush olive oil onto each piece, until thinly and evenly coated. Sprinkle with salt to taste.
- Flip every tortilla chip over, then brush to coat the un-oiled sides. Sprinkle again with salt, if desired.
- Transfer the baking sheet into the oven.
- Bake for 8-11 minutes (mine took 11 minutes) until chips at the outer rim of the pan begin to brown on the underside.
- Flip every chip, and bake again for 3-5 more minutes, until golden brown on each side, being careful not to burn.
- Sprinkle with more sea salt or garlic salt to taste.
- Cool until crisped up. Serve with pineapple salsa or black bean and corn salsa and guacamole with cheese quesadillas and mushroom quesadillas. Or try with peanut butter dip for a healthy sweet snack. Enjoy!

Have you tried making them in the air fryer?
Hi Denise! I haven’t, but from my experience every model runs a bit different. I would say to try decreasing the temperature a little bit and test it for a few minutes less than I say for the first time. That way you can see how your air fryer compares, and you won’t accidentally burn the chips. 😉 Hope this helps!
