Howdy, I’m Erik!

Howdy, everybody. I’m Erik! I’m Demeter’s partner here at Beaming Baker, and everywhere else. 😉 I wanted to take a sec to introduce myself because you’re going to be seeing a lot more of me ‘round these parts pretty soon, because…

I’m going to be heading up the fancy new Beaming Baker Travel section we’re going to add! Yay!! …

Today I’m going to share some tidbits about myself, so you can get to know me before I start writing posts on BB Travel. Yep, Demeter just sighed happily next to me and said, “Finally, you’re going to be doing something!!!” J/K! <– Demeter just literally wrote that. .

Me and Demeter, smiling and living our best life. I think we were at an airport here? Bus station? Mall? It was definitely somewhere travel-related, and we were loving every second of it for sure.

I actually thought it was going to be fun to introduce myself, but honestly, I’m a bit nervous. I wrote a few drafts of this post at first, but they all came out very… robotic. And not in a fun “giant mechanical creatures battling monsters” way or a “5 robot lions joining together to form the Defender of the Universe” kind of way.

It was a lot like that episode of 30 Rock were Jack was nervous about what to do with his hands while acting, so he just walked around with a mug in each hand. I tried to find a gif of it, but apparently it doesn’t exist. So, here’s another 30 Rock gif that accurately captures my initial nervousness:

30 Rock Nervous

Thankfully, Demeter gave me some good feedback and some helpful pointers, and now I’m way more comfortable with this whole “let me tell you about myself” thing.

And on that note, let me tell you about myself!

If you’ve been reading any of Demeter’s recipe posts over the years (she’s lookin’ at you right now, kid), you’ve probably learned a bit about me already—that I have a sort of Ross and Rachel will they/won’t they relationship with peanut butter (not Demeter, lol), that I’m really good at remembering lots of useless facts and details, and that I like to use fancy words like “preternaturally” sometimes when I’m ordering coffee—so maybe you feel like you kinda already know me? If not, then today we’re gonna change that. 😉

Howdy, I’m Erik!

Just in case you have no idea who I am whatsoever, my name is Erik and I’m Demeter’s partner—here on the blog, and in life. We’ve been together for 10 years (no joke the greatest 10 years of my entire life), and I’ve actually been working with her on the blog full-time for a little over a year now.

It was so scary joining her full-time at first, but I quickly realized it was the best thing ever. Before that I was doing all manner of freelance work, and I do not miss any of it one bit whatsoever.

Since joining her, I’ve mostly been behind the scenes, tinkering on website features, helping her schedule posts to social media, trying to decipher the mysterious ways of all the algorithms that run the Internet, and washing a buttload of dishes. (I can already hear Demeter in my head saying “Ew” at that specific turn of phrase). Demeter: Yes, I did!! I’d also pop up for the occasional selfie here and there. 😉

We’ll be sharing some more details about the Travel section in another post coming soon, but in the meantime, I can share a few tidbits about what I’ll be doing around here. (Thankfully, none of it will involve recipe creation—I’m leaving that up to the baking genius that is Demeter. But somehow, I feel like I’m still going to have to wash a few buttloads of dishes. .‍♂️)

There’s going to be all manner of super fun and interesting posts about everything from travel tips, gear reviews, city guides, Airbnb recommendations, and more. And, of course, there will be tons of pictures from the trips we go on!

Erik Voltron
Speaking of travel pics, here’s one of me and a giant Voltron made out of Legos from our visit to the Mall of America.

A few more facts about me…

To close this first post of mine off, here are a few more fun facts about me, because I do love me some facts. (Something Demeter would agree with wholeheartedly, though she would say I’m playing it pretty fast and loose with the term “fun.”)

  • I’m a pretty big nerd, and huge gamer. I started with Donkey Kong on the Atari 2600 when I was about 4, and I was hooked. The Final Fantasy and the Legend of Zelda series are my favorite franchises.
  • I used to have a handlebar mustache, but not in an ironic way. I actually predated the ironic hipster handlebars that consumed SF (and the world) by about a year. 😉
  • My favorite band is They Might Be Giants. I’ve seen them in concert 3 times, and Demeter even surprised me with tickets to see them once in NYC!
  • I’ve never gotten my driver’s license.
  • One day I’d love to go skydiving, even though it seems totally terrifying and crazy.

Now that you know who I am, I’d love to hear more about y’all!

I’m seriously looking forward to sharing some fun travel adventures with everyone.

Hmm…I’ll also need to come up with a fun closing line like Demeter has. .

In the meantime…

Stay swanky! (I don’t know, we’ll need to work on it.)

-Erik .

      2. Both wonderful games. Okay if you like Spirit Tracks, then you’ll love Wind Waker—it’s the game that created the Toon Link art style. They have an HD version for the Wii U, I highly recommend that game. ☺️
