And today, we’re going to be making the best fudgy vegan brownies 6 ways! Whether you’re a fan of peppermint, peanut butter or even marshmallows, I’ve got something for you. Ready? Let’s bake brownies!!
Vivacious Vegan Ingredients for Very Velvety Vegan Brownies
There are only so many words that start with “v”, ya know? 😉 Today’s vegan brownies are made with simple vegan ingredients you most likely already have on hand. And in case you don’t, I’ve included close substitutions for your convenience.
Almond Butter
Almond butter is one of my favorite vegan ingredients to work with because it has almost a neutral flavor when baked into vegan treats. This ingredient adds creaminess and delicious fudginess to these vegan brownies! You can also use peanut butter, sunflower seed butter or cashew butter.
Dark Brown Sugar or Coconut Sugar
I love using two different sweeteners in my vegan brownies because they each add a different flavor of sweetness to these fudgy brownies. You can feel free to use dark brown sugar or coconut sugar.
Pure Maple Syrup
Pure maple syrup is more liquidy than regular, granulated sugar, and so I’ve used it to add a bit more moisture to these vegan brownies. I’ve found that maple syrup helps to increase the fudginess of these brownies like a charm.
Coconut Oil
In a pinch, melted vegan butter might work in place of coconut oil. Don’t worry, it doesn’t add a coconut flavor to the brownies!
Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
You can interchangeably use cocoa powder or raw cacao powder to make your vegan brownies. Remember to make sure to sift your cocoa powder to get rid of clumps.
Flax Eggs
One of my favorite vegan ingredients! You can learn how to make flax eggs here. It’s basically a vegan substitute for eggs. It’s made with just ground flaxseeds and water.
Almond Extract
You can swap the almond extract in this recipe with pure vanilla extract. But if you ever get a chance, try the almond extract! It’s so good and adds a delicious sweetness to the fudgy vegan brownies’ flavor.
White Whole Wheat Flour
White whole wheat flour is one of the first ingredients I learned to bake with. Since then, I’ve been converted to being a fan of oat flour, but I don’t forget my roots! 😉 You can use white whole wheat flour or oat flour to make your fudgy vegan brownies. Both will yield similar results. Learn how to make oat flour.
How to Make Fudgy Vegan Brownies
Let’s start by learning how to make the base for fudgy vegan brownies. Then, we’ll get creative and start adding in more flavors.
Preheat
Begin by preheating your oven to 325°F. Then, line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper or greased foil. You can set this aside for later.
Whisk
Add the almond butter, brown sugar, maple syrup and coconut oil to a medium-sized mixing bowl. Whisk these ingredients together until it’s well mixed and you get a caramel-like mixture.
Add
Now, it’s time to add the cocoa powder. In ¼ cup increments, begin adding in the cocoa powder. Whisk in the cocoa powder until the batter becomes shiny and smooth. Once all of the cocoa powder is in, add the flax eggs, extract and salt. Whisk in.
Fold in Flour
Add the flour into that same bowl. Grab a rubber spatula and fold it in until no flour patches remain.
Fold & Pour
Fold in your favorite vegan chocolate chips. Your vegan brownie batter is ready! Now, pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
Bake, Cool and Enjoy
Place the pan into the preheated oven. Bake for about 30 minutes, then cool, slice and enjoy the very best fudgy vegan brownies!
