What’s your favorite fall dessert of all time? Gluten free apple crisp? How about moist gluten free pumpkin bread? Or perhaps you always crave a loaf of cinnamon raisin quick bread? (I mean, the scent alone is better than all the fall-inspired candles.)

One of my newly favorite fall desserts is this gluten free apple crisp. If you’ve been with me awhile, you know I know my way around a GF apple crisp. Just a few weeks ago, I shared my healthy apple crisp recipe with THE chunkiest, crispiest topping.

Gluten Free Apple Crisp Recipe

This time around, I thought I’d share a gluten free apple crisp recipe with fewer ingredients for the topping, but still with an ooey, gooey warm apple filling to satisfy all of your fall needs.

(Cue the cozy knee-high boots and chunky-knit sweaters, despite the fact that my body shape can-not and will-not accommodate a chunky knit for the life of it.)

Wanna know more about this gluten free apple crisp recipe, and perhaps, gasp!!, how to make said gluten free apple crisp? Let’s bake it! (And also just slip in how chunky knits are also your enemy—someone please. Lol.)

Is Apple Crisp Gluten Free?

You might be wondering to yourself: is apple crisp gluten free? Well, not all apple crisp recipes are gluten free. This apple crisp recipe is, in fact, gluten free. Just make sure to use certified gluten free rolled oats in the topping. If you’re sensitive to GF oats as well, read on for advice.

  • Red 8-inch Square Porcelain Baking Pan – the beautiful baking dish you see in these photos. Hint: it’s even more beautiful in person. I love the bold red of the outside of the pan, while the interior is super easy to clean!
  • Apple Corer & Slicer – Erik’s favorite tool for prepping the apples for this crisp. He loves that it makes coring and slicing the apples super easy.
  • Coconut Sugar + Almond Flour – two of my favorite gluten free baking essentials. I love that both of these ingredients keep the recipe healthy and whole, while adding beneficial nutrients to the gluten free recipe.

Ready to get your apple crisp on? ๐Ÿ˜‰ I mean, who isn’t?! Be sure to comment if you try my recipe—I truly love hearing from you! I’m so thankful that you’re here, sharing in these baking adventures with me and your loved ones. ‘Til the next one…

Ingredients

Gluten Free Apple Crisp Filling

Gluten Free Crisp Topping

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Coat an 8-inch square baking pan with coconut oil. Here is the Red 8-inch Square Porcelain Baking Pan that I used. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, add all Apple Crisp Filling ingredients: apples, coconut sugar, maple syrup, almond flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla extract. Using a rubber spatula, stir and fold until apples are fully coated and sugar has mostly dissolved. If your mixture isn’t very wet, add in water—you’ll want to see 1-2 tablespoons liquid at the bottom of your mixing bowl. I used 1 ½ tablespoons water in mine.
  • Pour this mixture into the prepared baking pan. Use the spatula to smooth apples into an even layer.
  • Add all Crisp Topping ingredients to a small/medium bowl. Using a fork, stir and fold until clusters form. Gently spoon evenly over apples, making sure to keep clusters intact.
  • Bake for 40-55 minutes. Mine took 47 minutes. It’s done when the topping is a deep golden brown and the juice around the filling has thickened. To test, use a spoon to carefully lift up a corner of the crisp to see the juices. If it’s still watery, bake for another 5 minutes.
  • Allow to cool for 10-15 mins. Serve warm with a scoop with dairy-free ice cream on top. Enjoy! Storing instructions below.

    Hi Demeter
Would like to try this receipe but I canโ€™t have almond flour. What can I substitute. Perhaps oat flour but how much?
    Thank you,
    Maria

If using a glass pyrex type pan should I lower oven heat to 325โ€™
I also used walnuts in place of pecans

Hi JoAnn, I haven’t tried baking this apple crisp in a glass pan, but I have used ceramic (which conducts heat very similarly to glass) and the results were good. You can try lowering the heat to 325F and seeing how you like the results, or keeping it the same and reducing bake time for about 5 minutes or so.

Wow! This sure doesn’t look or taste gluten-free. So much easier to make than an apple pie. No fussy crust an a wonderful crumble on top. Yum.
