A Very Happy Holidays with the Best Chocolate Peppermint Martini

Every Christmas, Erik and I enjoy what we like to call “Christmas Cheer!!!!!” Yep, we say it with that many exclamation marks and with sentence case. Heehee! The thing is, the holidays can get so much happier with a bit of delicious libations on hand. And hey, if cocktail libations aren’t your thing, I’ve got a bit of Christmas cheer coming your way that’s not a cocktail. Stay tuned for that. 😉 For the cocktail lovers, join me for the minty, chocolatey, and delightfully candy cane-coated festive cocktail treat that’ll make for a very merry Christmas: the best chocolate peppermint martini!

Everything You Need To Make the Festive Chocolate Peppermint Martini

  • Chocolate syrup + crushed candy canes – definitely don’t skip these two! They make this chocolate peppermint martini an actual joyful and jolly delight. Bonus, the chocolate syrup and candy canes make your martini taste like opening a Christmas present. In your mouth. 😉
  • Chocolate liqueur – use dark chocolate liqueur, chocolate liqueur, whatever you prefer in your chocolate peppermint martini.
  • Crème de menthe – there are crème de menthe products that are crystal clear and ones that are green like the Grinch. I chose to use a bright green one to create that beautiful Grinchean look. It’s so merry with the bright red, crushed candy canes on the rim.
  • Cream – you can use any type of cream or creamer that you’d like. I ended up using oatmilk creamer and it was absolutely delicious.
  • Mini candy canes – I love crushing up mini organic candy canes for the rim, then using a few whole ones hooked onto the side of the rim for a festive treat.

How to Make a Chocolate Peppermint Martini

Rim the Glass

The best and perhaps only way to delectably enjoy this chocolate peppermint martini is to take the time to rim the glass with all the holiday cheer! First, pour chocolate syrup onto a small, flat plate that’s large enough to dip the rim of your martini glass in. Then, grab another plate and pour the crushed candy canes into a single layer.

Hold the martini glass by the stem and turn it over. Dip the rim into the chocolate syrup, fully coating it. Twist the stem of the glass to continuously coat the rim until its entirety is covered. Now, dip that chocolate-coated rim into the crushed candy canes. Dip and twist until nearly all of the chocolate syrup is coated in candy cane pieces. Set upright and aside for later.

Make the Martini

Add all chocolate peppermint martini ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice: chocolate liqueur, crème de menthe and cream. Shake until well mixed and chilled (condensation will form on the shaker when it’s ready).

Sip and Enjoy

Strain your chocolate mint martini into the candy-coated glass. Sip and enjoy the best chocolate peppermint martini cocktail!

Description

The best chocolate peppermint martini: creamy, sweet and chocolate-y with a fresh peppermint finish, topped with a chocolate rim and crushed peppermint candy canes. Happy holidays!

Ingredients

Scale

For rimming the glass

  • chocolate syrup
  • 12 tablespoons crushed candy canes

Chocolate Peppermint Martini

  • 2 oz chocolate liqueur
  • 2 oz crème de menthe
  • 2 oz cream or non-dairy creamer
  • Ice

Garnish

Instructions

  1. Pour chocolate syrup onto a small, flat plate that’s large enough to hold the entire rim of your martini glass. Here are the large martini glasses that I use. On a separate, small & flat plate, pour crushed candy cane pieces and spread into an even layer.
  2. Holding the martini glass by the stem, turn the glass upside down and gently dip the rim into the chocolate syrup. Twist the rim of the glass through the chocolate syrup, evenly coating it and scraping off excess.
  3. Next, dip the chocolate-rimmed glass in the crushed candy canes. Press the chocolate rim gently into the candy pieces, adhering candy onto the chocolate. Do this until the dipped rim is nearly completely coated with candy. Small pieces will adhere more easily than large pieces. Set upright and then set aside while you make the chocolate peppermint martini.
  4. Add chocolate liqueur, crème de menthe and cream into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake until very well mixed and chilled. I recommend this cocktail shaker set–it has everything you need!
  5. Strain into candy-coated martini glass. Hook a mini candy cane into the glass as garnish. Sip and enjoy!

Notes

Tip: Be sure to lick chocolate syrup and crushed candy canes off the rim, then take a sip. The combo is perfect Christmas cocktail perfection.
