Any chia seed lovers out there? Today might just be your lucky day. 😉 Lately, I’ve been trying to incorporate more chia seeds into my diet… and I’ve found that the easiest way is to mix chia seeds into my daily smoothie.
Whether you love chia seeds or are kinda on the fence about ‘em, you’ll have the easiest time blending up today’s chia seed smoothie recipes. Hint: there are strawberries, mangoes and maybe even a few blueberries involved. 😉
How to Make a Chia Seed Smoothie
Below, you’ll find the basic, easy steps to making a chia smoothie. Then, further down in the post, you’ll find 3 different recipes for including chia seeds in a smoothie!
Whisk Chia Seeds (for mango chia smoothie, skip this step)
Pour chia seeds into a small bowl with milk. I like to buy a big ol’ bag of chia seeds so I don’t have to worry about the cost and be able to use as much as I need. Here are the chia seeds I use. 🙂 Whisk until well mixed and cover. Place this bowl in the fridge and let it set for about 10 minutes.
Add Bananas (for mango chia smoothie, skip this step)
Now, head on over to your favorite blender and add in the frozen bananas and remaining milk. Blend until smooth.
Add Complementary Fruit
Grab the star fruit of the chia seed smoothie recipe you’re using and blend until smooth. See recipe card for the exact amount, as it differs for each recipe.
Blend
Go to the fridge and grab the chia gel mixture you’ve made. Scrape it completely into the blender. Blend until smooth.
Pour & Enjoy
Pour into cups and enjoy your new favorite chia seed smoothie!

More Ways to Include Chia Seeds in a Smoothie
Play around with the frozen fruits.
I like to use frozen bananas as a base for many of my chia seed smoothie recipes because it adds such delicious creaminess and sweetness. But you may not be a big fan of bananas—no problem. Just swap the frozen bananas for your favorite fruit. Make sure to give yourself some time to experiment with how much you use of each fruit, as some are much more sour or overly sweet than others.
Don’t have frozen fruits?
If you want to use fresh instead, simply wash and prepare your fresh fruit. Remove any stems or seeds that you don’t want to eat. Then, pat dry and freeze. You can also do this when making my Easy Pineapple Banana Smoothie.

Super yummy and nutritious. I love the mango version best.
Glad to hear it! Mangoes are seriously the best. 😀
Made this and it was delicious
Fantastic, Emily! 🙂 I’m so happy that you enjoyed this! 🙂
Ohhh I’ve never used chia seeds before, something new to try. This sounds refreshing and a quick, healthy breakfast idea.
Oh, they really awesome! Thanks Rahul. 🙂
Love it! So simple, so creamy and so pretty! Definitely a smoothie that would bring happiness (=good weather) in my life 🙂
Also I really like that it’s thick and pudding-y. I don’t really drink smoothies for breakfast, but I really enjoy them as a dessert. As a thick, creamy, luscious dessert. So this is just the perfect recipe for me!
Oh, BTW please let me know if you learned to control the weather. And visit me then right away! No snow here, but rains like a motherf♥︎cker!
Hehe. Glad you like the recipe, Evi. 🙂 When I was making it, I debated whether or not to thicken it further and make it a pudding. It’s like you read my mind!
I will DEFINITELY let you know. Haha. Your comment made me laugh so hard! Loving the strategic placement of the heart. 😉 In the meantime, sending good, sunny vibes over to ya. xo
I just started using chia seeds. I can’t wait to try them in a smoothie. PS: I for sure couldn’t handle any more cold weather. Hang in there – I’m sure warmer weather is headed your way 🙂
Aren’t they the best? Such a humble little seed with so much to offer. Thanks so much Megan! Same to you. Sending sunny beams your way. <3
I love mangoes!!!! I also keep a bag of the frozen chunks on hand all the time because I like to snack on them while they are still frozen. Can’t wait to make this smoothie so I can pretend that I am lounging on some island in 80 degree sunny weather…instead I’m in New Hampshire experiencing (almost) the same weather that you are. It’s supposed to snow here this Sunday and be cold as the dickens. #wintersucks
Omigosh! I’m right there with you. Well, me and my two-year old nephew. We should start a frozen mango chunks club or something! 😉 Agreed. It’s been snowing/raining nonstop. Ugh! Sending summer vibes to ya, Karrie! <3
This smoothie looks completely delicious, Demeter! I’ve been feeling under the weather the past few days and would love to sip on this right now!! Love chia seeds in smoothies, too. That add texture, fibre and a whole lot of goodness. I can just imagine myself right now drinking this and laying on a warm sandy beach somewhere 🙂 One can dream, right?! Have a great week girl!! PINNED!
Oh no! Hope you feel better soon, Dawn. Us D’s have got to stick together! 😉 We can dream together. Thanks so much & same to you! <3
Sunshine in a glass!! I can’t complain about the weather in Houston – YET – but I’ll still take a mango smoothie any day 🙂
Ah, Houston weather has got to be nice and sunny! 🙂 Thanks Liz!
Love this smoothie, it sounds so tasty! I haven’t experimented with chia seeds yet, but from what I’ve gathered, they’re phenomenal. Love how simple and straight-forward your recipe is ?
